Nero: Hearing you say that made me realize why I was looking for a new chair.
I had a good guess on the reason, too. I’m sure that Shino’s request was the incentive behind this. In unconsciously wanting to fulfill Shino’s request, he started thinking about buying a new chair.
Shylock: I do find this selfless nature of yours very sweet and likable, Nero.
Nero: Yeah? And I find your manner of praising me unbearably embarrassing...--
In the end, Nero didn’t purchase a chair at the store.
Nero: Sorry ‘bout that. You accompanied me all day, but I ended up not deciding what to get…
Nero: But thanks to you asking Shylock, now I’ll have a good furniture shop in mind for next time.
Akira: I’m happy I got to see you picking furniture.
Nero: Happy? I don’t think I did anything that could’ve led to that reaction, though…
Akira: When I first met you, you weren’t very enthusiastic about staying here with the rest of us, but seeing you pick furniture to set seems as if you’re declaring that you are comfortable with living here from now on...and that made me happy.
Nero: I guess it does mean that....
Nero: I’m curious, though. How did I seem like when I first came here? And how has your impression of me changed now?
Akira: Well...when I first met you, it seemed like you were the type to keep your distance, and that you had a wall built around you to lock out others.
Akira: But now, I feel like we’re sometimes invited by you to step into the other side of that wall, and we have more opportunity to close the distance.
Nero: Hm….
Nero: Ah….I might get lectured by Shino again.
Akira: What?
Nero: I’m talking about the chair. I didn’t get a new one after all.
The sunset was bright against Nero’s back, and lit up his smile. It was a soft, inviting curl of his lips that felt like he was allowing me to step past his defences, to close the distance to him.
Nero: It’s a pity I couldn’t purchase a chair today, but I’m sure the perfect one is out there somewhere. Those kids, you, and… myself. It’ll take time, but I’ll make sure to find a chair that all of us like.
